Top 10 Unhealthy Food You Must Avoid

Unhealthy foods are foods that are high in calories, fats, salt, or sugar but have a low amount of fibre and nutrients. Eating them regularly can cause an adverse effect on your health. This can also affect your nutrient intake, including energy or protein, essential fatty acids, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, and fibre and fluid.

Poor nutrition poorly impacts your body and may impair your ability to enjoy a full and active life. Listed below are 10 foods that are generally unhealthy – although most people can still eat them in moderation or on special occasions without any permanent damage to their health.

1.       Sugary drinks

One of the worst ingredients that are included in our modern diet is added sugar. And the bad part is, some types of sugar are even more harmful to the body.

Sugary drinks are specifically unhealthy. This type of liquid calorie is not registered as food by the brain. When this happens, you end up consuming more calories without getting any nutrients.

And then when you consume too much sugar, your body may become insulin resistant. Insulin resistance is largely linked to the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Consuming a lot of sugary food can also make you prone to serious diseases like type 2 diabetes and heart diseases. It is also associated with various serious conditions, including hart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Try avoiding sugary drinks today. If you want a healthier alternative, you can drink tea, coffee, or soda water. The best beverage that can replace this is water. Drinking more water than sugary drinks means taking a step to better health.

2.       Sweetened breakfast cereals

Most of us are familiar with breakfast cereals like oats, wheat, corn, and rice. This is mostly eaten by children and is mixed with milk.  For them to be tastier, the grains are usually roasted, shredded, pulped, rolled, and flakes. And you know what makes them even more appealing to children’s palate? Manufacturers add a high amount of sugar to these breakfast cereals.

The next time you go to the grocery to get a box of these processed grains, make sure you choose brands that are low in added sugar but high in fibre. When making oats for breakfast, make sure you are making your own porridge and not the pre-packed sachets that are loaded with sugar.

3.       French fries and potato chips

The actual potato root crop is very healthy. The problem is when it is processed and becomes the french fries and potato chips that we know.

Potato chips and fries are extremely high in calories. And since they are finger foods, they are also very easy to eat in huge amounts. As a result, you can easily gain weight if you regularly eat these fried starchy foods. The processed potatoes are also found to have a significant amount of acrylamides. Acrylamides are considered carcinogenic and are formed when potatoes are subjected to high heat during roasting, frying, or baking.

Try consuming these goods moderately. As much as possible, eat them boiled. As an alternative, try making mashed potatoes, but do hold back on the butter! You can also eat carrots or nuts for snacks to avoid unnecessary calorie bloating.
